Always used a very high spec blend 16% protein or 18% dry matter protein £240 this year though. Collage are sure i can move to a 15% protein mix of 65% barley and 35% maize dark grans come to 17% dry matter protein comes to £200. Or another good 16% blend but includes some wheatfeed at £226.

This it to grow 300kg average calves on, will not be weaned till January. Eating 10kg silage, 1/2kg molale 16% protein and 2.5kg of the above blends. Silage 30% dry matter, 10.5me, 12.95 protein.

I know either of the above blends will work but how about the collages straight mix of barley and dark grains. Im worried it drops the overall protein in diet too low and too high in starch? I dont want them too fat for selling in spring. Sac is the closest i can find to an independent nutritionist.

Jaime Elizondo is quite an expert on this topic. He does independent consultancy for big feedlots and dairies and has posted to YouTube various lectures with Mark Bader, a biochemist (recently deceased)

He's currently offering online courses on grazing rather than rations, but it probably includes that too.

Maybe it's worth asking for consulting quote through his website. Don't see any reason why you can't do it remotely if you have silage test results etc.
