Infested ... and helpless. Ideas?

I know its not going to be ideal but could you feed the cows at night for a few days?

Had them start here last week in the frost,i swiched to feeding the barley at night,they wont hang about long if they hungry

Probably a solution that would work and something I’ve thought about but again be difficult to implement as staff like to be gone by 5.30 and they need a life

Yes TMR but takes three hours give or take

Ill be honest if it was here the cows would be on plain silage for 3 or 4 days then back to the grub

@Bald Rick - I see in the press article from Jersey that they have the feed passages netted off there. Is that not possible with you?

Anything we try puts them off for an hour or 2 at most.

As long as the grub is cleared up by the morning so theres nothing for them it will send them on
But you need to make sure they cant get at anything,no maize pit no cake no mixed up grub in wagon etc

It makes the cows hungry so they eat the starlings when they turn up. Problem sorted.

Id put up with a drop in milk for a few days when you think how much extra grub your feeding to feed the rats

feck that, chase the cows outside, set up a sprinkler system then spray the cute little birds with some readily available form of 'non toxic' sleepy bird spray, after the birds have had their special shower, then relocate them to the large aviary that has been dug down at the bottom paddock .

Nah, another matter that was causing members concern


Still running at around 5000+ a day.
Now got another problem of a hard core of 100 or so staying on to roost in the eaves.

Are they just protected as in can’t be shot or is catch and release an option? On an American dairy page they seem to have good results with a Larsen trap

Apparently under the wildlife and countryside act 1981 they are protected meaning birds cannot be taken OR killed

So I'm assuming you couldn't catch them and move them elsewhere either
