Ingasol Rand Air Compressor problem.

Hi I have an old portable Ingasol Rand Air Compressor ( Model 2E8 ) which was leaking air from the head.
So I replaced the three head gaskets and then after preparing them I put it all back together.
I switched it on but there is no air at all and even when you turn the wheel by hand there is no compression.
Filter is clean and plenty of oil.
Anyone have any idea's ?
Many Thanks Robert

Hi there will be reed or spring loaded popet non return valves in the cylinder heads, these can break be installed the wrong way round or just worn out. Each head will have two one inlet & one exhaust which must be installed in the correct place & not damaged. It is worth changing these you may be able to obtain them where you head gaskets came from. Larger compressor's may have 4 valves in each head.

hI Hay Maker, sorry to bother you again but we have checked all gaskets and valves and everything else and it all looks fine. When we put it all back together and start it up it runs fine except it's not making any air, you can turn the belt wheel with your hands which is easy but there is no compression at all. Piston looks good with no play at all. Any idea's ?
Thanks Robert

Our IR had reed valves which broke. They are very thin strips of steel which flap up and down in the head. It would be quite easy to have missed them when dismantling, and then dropped them on the floor. From memory ours were about 12 mm wide and 30 mm long. It was a while ago so my memory could be failing.

Hi fordguy1, thanks for your enquiry, I am going to use logic on this,. Piston goes up & down but no compressed air is made! Reason could be is air getting into piston so it gets compressed, if not faulty pluming & or valves not present or nor working correctly as you have cured the blown head gasket or have you. Have you used the correct gasket. I have in the past had trouble obtaining the correct parts from IR dealers as they are very keen to sell you a new compressor but not the right parts!

Yes I have inspected those and they both are in good condition.

I have a little Wolf at home, stopped making air, took the head off and ended up turning the reed valve the other way up, I guess over the years it had maybe bent slightly, cured the problem although it now not just as quick building up, but only use it now for car tyres so it's doing a job.
