Hi all
Can anyone tell me the best engine oil to use please and also does the back end oil also supply the gearbox or is that a separate oil and if so were do I fill the gearbox as I can't find it and I'm also assuming that the back end oil opporate the power steering?.
Many thanks all

15w40 for the engine. Steering, transmission and back end share the same oil filled through a plug just above the top link bracket. Dipstick is behind your left foot when sitting on the seat. 10W30 UTTO(or Hytran if you want to pay more).

I don’t have a 475 but if I did I would use Fuchs txe30 in the engine and nothing else
UTTO is ok for transmission and hydraulic
Good idea to change hydraulic filter with genuine and fit new o ring
Is the oil cooler and radiator clear
I used to work at IH agent when 475’s were new

The gearbox and rear end is all part of the same reservoir and runs the hydraulics. The brakes are oil immersed so you will need a UTTO. IH would have speced Hytrans back in the day but I have run a Q8 UTTO for years in an 895. The filler is above the the top link bracket with a square for a spanner.
I use a later E7 of 10w40 oil in the 895 because of the spec on some slightly more modern engines.

Why would you use a 30 monograde?

I've got an IH 475 and I used the same oil as my John Deeres which is JD Plus-50 2 which is 15W-40.

No problem using 15w/40 in your 475
I have an old saw Bench with petter ph1 engine and dexta tractor
The petter is hand crank start and is definitely easier to start with Fuchs txe30 in sump
The dexta also starts and runs better
Both engines have less leaks
I am looking at buying a County with select o speed transmission for road runs, I will use only Fuchs txe30 in engine

Exactly, what spec is Fuchs TXE 30, I presume the county will be ford 5000 and definitely needed a higher specification in
Than a Massey 165 (Perkins A4/212)back in the day api cd opposed to cc

I've looked on the Fuchs website and can't find a txe 30 oil. There is a sae 30 oil, but I still think a multi-grade oil would be better for a 475, but would it be better for a Petter?
