I need to do some hard facing welding on a site and wondered if an inverter mig would do the job easier than humping my normal mig to the site every time its needed ? Any advice anyone ?

Bought this little multi process machine last week, pardon the reverse picture front camera is broken. I've only been miging up box section frames its a decent little welder. Downside is limited to 5kg rolls but I'm going to modify it so it takes the big roll. I also have a SIP 303 inverter mig for about 10 years been used everyday the only thing that its needed was a Gas solenoid. Welds just as good as any of the transformer machines.

Can you get hard facing mig wire?

edit. and does it need a gas supply.
I.M.O. it’s shifting the gas bottle around that kills it for portable mig welders.
on the other hand you can get a stick welder the size of a toaster sub £100 will do the job.

I just assumed you can get hard facing Mig wire, i'd better look into that before i buy one. I have a portable 140 amp stick welder but i know it wouldn't be boss of this job, even with a nail replacing the fuse 😊

Just had a google and yes you can
get hard facing mig wire that is, over 120 different mig wire spools on welding supplies direct including hard facing all with a three figure price tag.

I'm just wondering how much is that welder in the pic ,and do they take less power than the standard mig because power is our biggest problem

It was £1100 quite a lot of money for what it is, and I can't really justify it over a lesser priced machine other than I wanted to try it l. So far im pleased with it and the my other guys like it, its done a few site jobs already and a couple of stainless jobs. There are other brands out there for probably slightly over half that would get a good one. Try and find one that takes the 15kg spool, that is a major drawback. Regards power Inverter over transformer I've no idea, there will be more people on here that know better. My shed is single phase with a 200amp supply with the max transformer about 200yards away with no problems. However they don't like the damp and they are probably a bit more sensitive to bumps knocks etc. @Welding Supplies Direct would be better to advise.
