The banner reading "England get out of Ireland" has flown in the New York parade since the 1940s.
Justification/Reasons for the banner appears to range from being "anti colonial", Irish Americans trying to be "more Irish than the Irish", an apparent belief within some nationalist/republicanism circles that if "British presence" is removed the unionists will magically forget they are British and realise they are "Irish"
