520,000 tons, of which 470,000 tons are exported, mostly through the UK and to the UK.
Its not so much the loss of the UK market they are worried about, but the very much lower price likely in the UK market after brexit. Its the loss of value, not volume.
Also the extra cost of literally shipping their exports to mainland Europe instead of going by road through mainly Fishguard and Swansea by truck all the way. This will add to their costs and therefore decrease further the price to their farmers.

As far as cattle numbers are concerned, I suspect that we are talking about approximately 1,200,000 beasts per year. Educated guess.

Most pundits have been saying the beef price is likely to rise post Brexit, more so with no deal. The news today is full of stories about food shortages and price rises yet you say we'll have a lower price after Brexit?

how much of that is the money uk lent them when they were going bust or has it all been paid back?

Massively insulting attitude, how about all the damage done by UK for centuries to other countries you want that discussed?
Have to say the anti Irish rhetoric recently on this forum around Brexit similar to being used your politicians to avoid mess created by themselves has put me off visiting & contributing recently.

there was another forum that turned v xenophobic before it imploded
I dont think there is an anti Irish feeling/rhetoric among uk members on this forum, but I guess if you had lent a friend some money in their time of trouble and then they forgot the close business relationship soon afterwards even to the extent that it would hurt them you would have a few words to say.
I can understand the Irish government arent happy as it is them that will have to do the EU's demand and put the border up, lets face it the amount of ferry capacity between ireland and the EU mainland isnt going to result in huge amounts of extra goods being moved either way

So the EU are happy to bung another !00, million to punish the UK , THEY'RE NUTS
No, they are desperate, the tories eventually had the balls to get rid of their stooge TM and now they are terrified that Boris will take us out on no deal and that it wont be the end of the UK, also they know they will have to put up the hard border or look very stupid. We are getting pretty close to the end game in this saga so I think we can expect ever more desperations from both the EU and remainers in the UK, if I was Boris I would start wearing a bullet proof vest
