Heard this morning that ABP Perth struggling to get cattle as farmers reluctant to supply them. Seemingly phoning around a lot of the big guys offering silly money but it's not working. Any of their suppliers wish to comment?
better get themselves off to market then , uk has cheapest beef in western europe , despite highest standards ,mostly down to the goodman cartel playing games with eastern euro beef repackaged and sold under dubious flags , shame on all those that break rank and supply them, there wont be any loyalty down the road .

Can anyone provide a link to Jim Walker's article in last Friday's Scottish Farmer.

It should be available to as widespread an audience as possible. Thank heavens someone isn't afraid to speak openly and frankly about Larry and the politicians who might be in league with him.

Look forwards to someone posting the article. it's all well and good some of these articles being subscription only but If they strike a decent chord they should be free.

I have no business connection with ABP or the SF, but I'd say that there's a bit of an irony there - you want the work of a professional writer to be given away for free, because it (presumably) exposes someone who might be paying less than market value for their trade.

No criticism, but just a wry observation.

I'll give you that. I take it you disagree that a factual article that spells out the imbalances of the supply chain should be available more freely than a subscription only service even if it’s for the good of farmers?

I was thinking it might be able to spread better knowledge amongst farmers in general so they can make a more informed decision when it comes to selling stock.

Nope, I just respect the right of an individual or company to sell their output for a price that they decide. Copying this and sharing it without permission is a very poor show, imho - if the author had wanted it to be free release, they could have done so easily enough.

Not just Perth. Cold call from York this week offering a strong flat price for B&Ws. Pity I can't gather up enough scrappers to make a load. You can bet there would be some surprises on the payslip.
