I think you should fit new hoses and do a fair bit of tidying up before you use it.
it looks like an Austin gypsy engine but I cant be sure its been a few years since I had oneBritish leyland engine ,mini or Morris minor, somebody with a pipe and a beard will be along shortly to put us right ,?
It's a manual gearbox. Has a shift lever attached to one of the shift forks. See the first engine photo.An air filter might be a good addition to it.
Is it an auto gear box?
How did you find all this out? What did you google to find this?Hmmmmmmmm have never smoked a pipe or cigarettes and don't have a beard but if my memory is correct that looks like the 1500cc A55 Austin Cambridge Engine.

That engine was used in the Nash Metropolitan (1960)
