Is This Bad Husbandry?

Recently bought some tenanted land. On visiting it today, I found this ewe clamped over a lamb. She had no water. There was no-one on site.
This looks completely unacceptable. Who better to ask than TFF.

Somewhere there’s going to be someone starting a thread saying my new landlord wants me off because he found my ewe in the lamb adopter without water…

I never give a ewe in the adopter a huge amount of water at once because lambs have a tendency to come through the slot and drown in it.

Its an adoption crate, the ewe probably has pushed that water bucket away whilst feeding on the hay, my crates have rings to hold a bucket and feed.

Ewes dont tend to drink a huge amount but fresh after lambing they can put away 10 litres easy enough and they do need a bit of water if on hay especially

Good tenants are hard to find. I have no other plans for the site.

maybe better to ask the farmer before posting pictures on here, he might have missed you by 5 mins and back 5 mins after you.there is enough out there to make the farmer the villain, without posting maybe half the story in pictures on a public forum .

He’s probably an early riser, even wealthier now he’s a lamb mothering on.
I see a pickup drive around about once a week. The tenant does not drive a pickup and has to reapply for his driving licence every three years (if you know what I mean).

I think the answer is not necesarily. My toddler can be seen at times restrained in a seat. With food (damp) but no access to water as she has recently flung it at my head/on the floor as appears to be the case here. As you are concerned and you were there in person it would be best contact the farmer. Nothing milks without water so it is not in anyones interest to restrict this cheapest of inputs.
