Isuzu rodeo 4x4 problem

my 06 pickup won’t engage 4x4 and the dash says “check 4wd”. Two garages can’t diagnose the problem they say I need to go to the main dealer which is a three hour round trip to plug into their computer. Was wondering if anyone else had solved a similar problem?

Worth doing it a few times, just in case you got the sequence wrong

Is the 4 wheel drive working?

Did you try the disconnect the battery overnight trick?
Some lads even take the battery out and join the positive and earth leads with a jumper wire.

But you'll loose the radio code ...........

Do these all have a similar set up to the Shift on the fly Troopers?..

If they do ,

On front axle theres an actuator behind a little bash plate. The Vaccuum hoses come off or split and the wiring goes brittle and snaps... Also check the Vac hoses all the way back aswell.

On the Rodeos you can reset the Transfer Case Module aswell buy shorting it's pins... I cant remember which pins though!!

Look on an australian website google isuzu 4wd problem ,its about resetting the control unit under the drivers seat easy enough to do and cures the problem
sorry its the same one as above worked for me
disconnecting the battery doesnt work

If you go under the vehicle, remove the plug in the back of the black control box at the rear of the transfer box and check all the pins inside for corrosion. Have had a few of these with that problem. Water ingress and the plug pins corrode and break off.

We had the same problem on our 06 rodeo, the 4 wheel drive requires resetting this can't be done by holding the buttons in on our one, can only be done by connecting two cables together in the multi plug. In the end a cable was connected to a toggle switch in the cab so every so often when the check 4wd came on the dash you only needed to flick the switch to reset.
