seen several posts recently about stock types and need to revert to hardier/native /forage finished stock.....generally i'd agree......BUT....processing costs have risen so much that surely this kind of stock is less viable at the other end?

example....a hill lamb raised/finished on grass k/o 44% on a smaller carcass than a grain finished beltex x......but both have the same kill/cut costs....but the latter yielding a lot more meat making it more viable?

I think they've been covering the increased costs well enough if buying live... If it was that much more viable for an E grade lamb factories would give a better bonus on E grade lambs than 15p..

Its what we know is needed, the genetics to produce meat from the lowest cost feed / feeding / husbandry regime.

Too many breeds wont be commercial in the (near?) Future.

But this is not breaking news of course... fairly simple surely
