Jabbing Sheep

I had this earlier this year, vet only job with the drug Prellim. Apparently not as successful as cattle, down at 60% or so. Certainly plenty of my ewes are looking very heavy inlamb now

A jab of Estrumate (or the generic version, Prelim) will make them reabsorb. However, it does need to be done at a certain time, which is not immediately after tupping. I can’t remember the timing, and you’ll need to discuss with a vet anyway.

Iirc @Tim W had a similar issue a couple of years ago?

How many is there and what breed? I’m not very keen on estrumate think it cocks them up for when they do breed is there anyway you could persuade him to lamb them. Might be cheaper to buy them of him
They are his Blue Face Leicster (spotty type) Show gimmer lambs, for some reason he hadn’t tipped them and then stuck them next to my field of tips. One was tipped by a Teeswater so should be a good spotty type the other by a Cheviot. Don’t want to fall out with the neighbors so thought jabbing them may be an option. Both tipped in the last ten days

I had a similar problem with a ram getting in with my ewes ---here's what i did concerning making sure they lost his lambs
Day 1 ---discovered & removed stray ram (that could have been there for ''a while'')
Day 2--put out my raddled rams (you could use teasers)
Day 13 ---those ewes not covered with raddle were assumed in lamb to the stray ram and treated with cyclix
Day 17 ---ewes should have slipped the foetus if they were in lamb & started cycling according to vet advice

Next spring there were no lambs born to the stray ram ---cyclix worked well--there was a mad week when most of the 200 jabbed ewes all lambed!

Other thing is what has it done to his mv status assuming that most show sheep are mv accredited

Just the tip? Should be fine, well that’s what I always told them anyway. :nailbiting:

Why would he put his BFL gimmer lambs in a field next to a neighbour's tups? Will it do any harm for him to lamb them, particularly if you offer to buy the lambs after weaning at store prices.

A tup had been in with my ewe hoggs at wintering last year a week or so before we were down fluke dosing. Pulled off 13 (out of 275) raddled ones and winterer arranged with his vet to have them jagged (not sure when or what with though). None of them lambed so we were either lucky they hadn't settled or there's a jag available with a good success rate.

my tup got in with my ewe lambs last year,
I jabbed with prelim, theres a window to use it though and I cant remember what it is, something like within 21 days?
The vet told me it isn't very effective, I jabbed all but 2 little badger face crosses as they were so small they wouldn't have been cycling.
Needless to say I had 9 out of 30 lamb including the 2 badgers!!
I'd save my time and money and leave them to lamb if it happened again.
