Jcb 3cx 1989 project

Good evening,

I am about to start a bit of a project on a 1989 3cx, 2wd.

the back kingpin has lost its slew, and I am going to start with this, as it pretty useless without it!

I am planning on removing the back arm, but I would like to Hudraulic lock the arm, and reduce the amount of fluid loss.

so before I use trial and error and spend a fortune, would anyone know the size of the original hydraulic hose fittings so I could order some blanks?

it’s where the flexible pipes join the rigid pipes around the kingpost.



there are a few items to fix, I need a new left side door. And a new front windscreen, but other than just a full service, the machine is a workhorse, and it is very handy to have around the yard.

The hoses and fittings around the kingpost that supply the 3 main rams are 1/2'' bsp.Nearly sure,if fitted,the extending dipper ram uses 1/2'' bsp fittings as well.
The hoses and fittings for the hydraclamps (if fitted)and the slew cylinders are 1/4''bsp.

Hi Agrimax,

thank you so much for that, I really appreciate it.

the plan is to extend the arm out flat, and disconnect and blank the hoses, to try to hydro lock the rams, so I can lift it away, and prevent fluid loss.

Ill have to remove all the fixed pipe work around the kindpost, so I’ll blank off the flexible hoses from the body to the fixed pipes, and remove the remainder.

mam I right in saying that we can still move the jcb with all pipes blanked, once all rear controls are in neutral?

Quick question re this JCB.

Just above the manual flap to lock the rear arm upright, there seems to be a plunger like a master cylinder, which I’m guessing was attached via a cable to the locking flap.

Where does this go? And I’m assuming it is a disconnect for the hydraulic circuit?

Also the pipes around the kingpost, there are the 8 large pipes 1/2 ‘ bsp, and the two smaller pipes for the slew rams 1/4 bsp.

There is one smaller pipe even smaller than the slew rams, is this connected to that other plunger/master cylinder?

Or does anyone know what it’s for?

There should be a handbrake like lever in the back of the cab. Think it`s behind the actual handbrake lever and looks the same
It has a master cylinder on so in theory you can lift locking lever up from inside
Totally separate to the hydraulic system

Is it a grey cab model?

The locking lever is behind you to the right.

I had to take mine all apart in the cab because the lever had seized up, once free it worked a charm.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, yes it is a grey cab. Ok so that’s just a way of moving the locking place up or down with the lever?

I’m still waiting for time to start to strip this machine, time seems to be robbed every day!
