Jcb 3cx inj pump timing

As above going to change inj pump on our 2004 Jcb 3cx as she is a bit sluggish at times anyway my question is where are timing marks for TDC Perkins engine by the way. Exchange pump arrived here today but not timed up as shaft has not been locked ??? par for the course today as everything went wrong so just the icing on the cake

If it has no key where are timing marks likely to be? Thanks. The replacement pump sent of the serial number certainly has no key?

Do you have the black electric fuel lift pump? if so its a 1100 series engine which ties in with the age of machine.

Oh dear! you need to take the pump to a diesel shop and get it locked on TDC no 1.

you need to take the water pump off and the timing case cover off, you need a drill bit ( i think 9mm???) there is a hole between the cam shaft gear and the crank shaft gear which you put the drill bit through to lock the crank in TDC no 1. assuming cam shaft gear has not bee removed theres a hole in that which lines up with hole in the timing case then.

Then you need to lock the old pump, get a decent puller (i not found one ideal yet!) probably apply a small amount of heat to gear and tap the puller a bit too and often with alot of fuss the gear will pop off. Then you can bolt the new pump on etc remembering to undo the injector pump lock bolt before you try starting it!

pump will have a key way but theres no key in the gear so just relies on the taper. You WILL NEVER get it to run well if at all with out setting the pump at a shop.

No external marks, or locking pins? No electric pump a mechanical lift pump and new pump has a hub with 4 bolts but sadly not locked so,,,, cheers

ok so you got the last of the 1000 series engine. You still need to get the pump set on TDC though.

timing marks are on the gears in the timing case, just line them all up. when you bolt the injector pump gear to the pump hub its on slotted holes. you gently turn the gear by hand anticlock wise to remove the back lash of the gears before tightening up the 4 bolts holding it to the hub. BUT you MUST get the pump set to TDC first.

Well phoned the pump supplier and all is well, pump hub has a 9 mm hole where you put pin through locking gear and hub to pump body no need to time any off the gears ? and therefore no need to lock up pump. Thanks for the help guys

thats assuming the hub was put on in the right place to start with :X3:

Yes absolutely but I did notice yellow marker was on the hub nut. Last pump I fitted was a vp 44 Bosch and after I had it fitted I noticed it also had the hub locking pin holes aligned saves taking timing cover off anyway biggest job was removing water pump on Jcb as one of the bolts was seized in alloy cover oh forgot to add she is back running again sounds good so far
