JCB 412 Fuel or electrical problems?

Our JCB is away getting repaired and we have got the lend of my cousins JCB 412 Farmmaster which they have as a spare. It has a Perkins A4 engine. It had been playing up with them and continues to mess around with us. We are keen to leave it back in better form than we got it.
in summary it has a factory fitted isolator which needs turned off to stand a chance of it starting next time(but there could be other issues masking this)
when starting it sometimes the key needs to be turned on and off several times before the starter engages. Also, it ofter just stops without warning and is hard to restart. Stops dead rather than gradually airlocking. it could go for days without issues then stop 5 times in an hour. We are thinking it could either be the ignition or the solenoid within the injector pump to stop her, although the solenoid is clicking when the ignition is turned on. Any other suggestions?

check wires to fuel cut off solenoid.

Check the filter inside the lift pump first...behind a big bolt head.have to remove pipe from the centre of it first

We have a 412 and have recently had failure of the fuel shut off solinoid. You are also aware that they won’t crank until the ignition has been on and all warning lights are illuminated. Then it will crank....

Thanks. We’ve checked the fuel shut off solenoid and it seems to be working ok. There was dirt in the lift pump gauze which we were hopeful was one of the issues. But after sitting overnight it started this morning and then died out immediately. So it appears that the problem is that when left to sit the fuel is draining back down the system which means air must be getting in Somewhere?
