last week friends handler went up in flames not 6 months old done 470 hrs was kept clean and tidy insurance will cover it but shouldn't jcb cover it under warranty if the engine had pack up or boom cracked it would be sorted but his insurance will surely go up thought no fault of his own

Is it possible rats have bitten the wires.
Your friend could have problems with insurance as they might think it is deliberate

it is possible that rats chewed wiring put unlikely poor placing of wiring loom is probable cause

I would,t thought it was vermin, as 500 hrs in 6 months makes it used regularly.

did it go on fire whilst standing or being used?
