What aren't you used to? Take off foot= slow down.

Just need to dab brakes now and a again to ensure they don't seize.

It’s taken almost two years, but I can report that since my Manitou departed and I changed to a hydrostatic transmission, that both my legs are the same thickness again!

In my experience Merlo is more reliable than JCB and much nicer to drive. The cab suspension is superb.

its not a merlo then surely? my new one is a bit diff to the older one but its doing the same thing i just havnt got at one with it yet.

I'm used to it, I just hate it. I've also got a wart on my thumb that I'm used to but I don't want that either. It isn't a very consistent hydro, so take your foot off and it will slow down or stop but if and when it feels the need. Brakes are horrendous if you touch them everything shakes and dashboard lights come on, you don't slow down though.

Funny thing I've noticed about folk I've watched who dislike torque converters is they seem to forget there are different gears to choose from and don't understand what the dump switch is for. There's pluses and minuses for both and some people will only get away with one or the other in most cases.

Neighbour has had several merlos & still got one classic it keeps going & got a recent scorpion its always got issues & also got a massey one aswell now.

So we're agreed, it's a Kramer or a Merlo. Could try the Claas if dealer nearby but not heard good things about them.

A big livestock outfit up here have had claas for ages and they would do some hours with them

We've 3 torque converter forklifts and the 1 hydro, I don't drive them much but if I've had a few hours on one jumping to the other takes a bit of getting used to again.

current machine is 4 years old and never needed it???.....dont know how much it costs, but someone on here quoted 7.5k!!!!!.... and then youd have to pay them to service it as well..... cash is better in my pocket than theirs

The trouble with JCB is that you are on the brakes all the time, wasting engine power and creating heat.

are you one of those guys who can’t find neutral when loading and revs the tits off it in gear whilst stood on the brakes then wonders why everything’s overheated and the brakes are grinding???

Until their is a cab suspension on another make I wouldn't look anywhere else, comfort is on another level!! Merlo is a very powerful machine both in the field and on the road.

Do the current Merlo still have reverse half the speed of forwards?

I have a 2008 34.7 and would probably use first gear more often, but it's like someone put it in creep box when reversing, not helped by having to red line the engine before the transmission really speeds up.

We are looking at a new 542 70. Current one has had a fair chunk of warranty work in the first 2000 hours so I think if we buy another it will have extra warranty. About £1.30 / clock hour
