know someone who reckons the clutch in his 2040 has gone...it won't go in gear running but put it in gear stopped then start up and she goes alright

is the clutch gone or could it be it just needs bleeding?....know about nashes but nowt about lesser brands:D:D

Either it's not disengaging due to faulty linkage or hydraulic issues or it's stuck!!! Could also be a shattered plate that has wedged solid inbetween flywheel and pressure plate giving constant drive.

First thing first, establish if the slave and master cylinder setup (if a 2040 has one) is working. If you think it is, start up tractor and let it warm up properly. Then get into a low gear and in a field. Make SURE pull to stop works!! Get driving round the field with clutch pedal pushed down, and wedged if you want. Then just jab brakes on and off to see if it will release.

Almost sure the 2030 was just a mechanical pedal. If the pedal feels light I'd be looking at the release bearing

that was what i'm beginning to think.....now i've driven tractors with knackered clutches and the engine just revs up while tractor goes slowly.....this pulls alright but it's hard work to get into gear:scratchhead:

Have you excessive free (light) travel at the top of the clutch pedal, by any chance?
If so and you have a fully mechanical linkage from pedal to clutch shaft, find adjuster and adjust until all free play has gone, then just turn back to leave a bit at the very top.
