She’s been spluttering a bit after startup. So changed the filters earlier. The pump should fill the filters? How long should it take? Thanks

Ah, therein lies your problem. The bleed screw slackened on the first filter would probably cause the pump to draw air given it draws fuel through the first filter then pushes it through the final filter heading towards the main injection pump. Shouldn't need the bleeders open for it to prime up if the pump is in good order.

As @jd6820 says, if it a common rail (2 filters) the bleed screw needs to be tight for the pump to prime. You should be able to hear the pump running with the ignition on, probably not from the cab though.
Also make sure you haven’t lost the O-ring off the glass bowl.
That famous O-Ring...made the silly mistake once of replacing it with the one that comes with the filter thinking I was doing a great job!! That was until 2 hours later wondering why the warning light was coming on beside the steering column. After much review of the wiring to the moisture sensor and the filter insertion into the housings to find that my replacement of that O-ring on the glass bowl filter was the culprit. Learnt a lot about the fuel system that day!
