JD 6610 forward/reverse shuttle

Hi,
my good old 12000 hours JD is driving very jerky, when i push the left hand shuttle lever from neutral in forward or reverse. It is like i would take the foot too fast from the clutch.... It does not matter if the oil is cold or warm. Can i check something myself or calibrate? Thanks in advance.

At those hours your clutch packs could be on way out

I take it you are able to smooth the shift using the clutch pedal. You can put pressure gauges on the power quad and see what its doing when you shift (with range in neutral). The pressure drops and rises within a few seconds. Some of the lads on here are proper john deere men should be able to steer you right. Could be any number of things. Mine slipped in all 4 gears under load in highest range and was slower to pick up forwards(right hand reverser). Traction clutch was banjaxed and changed the f/r modulation control valve I think its called, will check. Don't know if there's much calibration to be done with the electric shuttle.

Does it make any difference what powerquad gear you are in? had a 6310 like this and changed the solenoid for the shuttle and it was fine after that. Can’t remember if there was any user calibration on the 10 series. 20 series can be done through the dash. As mentioned above, someone familiar with jd and some pressure gauges will know what’s up. May even be worth getting the main dealer to diagnose. could Be cheapest in the long term. you can then decide if they repair it or you do some of the work yourself.

It does not depend on which gear i chose. Normally i work with my sprayer in E1/2/3 and use shuttle on headlands for changing the driving direction. Now this is nearly impossible, i often stall the engine...
I know, that the powerquad is designed in sections, so i need help/instructions for the shuttle section imo

As Davyg said, is it ok when using the clutch?

parts are expensive, so I wouldn’t go changing parts without proper testing.
an hour’s diagnosis from a main dealer/specialist should be able to pinpoint the problem. Would be £70 well spent.
you can then decide if you want them to fix it or tackle it yourself

Another vote from me for a proper diagnostic. It's in a proper workshop manual if you can get hold of one; they're not cheap to buy though. There are a few related threads on here if you have a look, might give you an idea of whats involved.

If ok with clutch then would lead one to think wiring and transmission is ok. But then you can modulate the clutch and the shuttle will be using a preset modulation. Don’t actually know what’s in the shuttle lever, but assume it’s just a couple of switches, although bloody expensive.
