Unfortunately we had our Jd Gator stolen a few weeks ago ☹️😡

insurance have settled so i’m looking at replacement

new gators are £35,000 …… so not an option, just sed models not cheap either and a bit of a lottery ?

a direct replacement similar high spec 2017 855d is over 10k

what else should i consider ? we have been very happy with the Gator and its had no issues in the 7yrs we have had it but price is putting me off considering another

we are not a livestock farm so it’s use it not hard, it’s a fancy wheel barrow mostly, used for grass clippings, harrow horse ménage, paddock jobs like muck picking and ragwort pulling and farm jobs like slug pellets, tree trimming, crop walking etc

Clive, you have endless options.
You can buy a decent spec Pick up for the price of a Gator
If you like the idea of a gator type machine then Kubota ( bit heavier & slower) or a Polaris - rapid but just as soft
Other options are a full on Jimny conversion or buy a Cabbed Solis style amenity tractor.
Or as you like a project then build your own Landy 90.

pick up or 4X4 conversion not what we want as just too big really - the gator was useful due to its size, light weight and tight turning for jobs like ménage harrowing etc

You want a @jimmer special (he’ll have to tell you the make, I’m lost when it comes to anything more than a basic push bike). Cheap, but if it can stick his abuse it can’t be too bad. Your insurance will probably cover the cost of a shiny new one with warranty.

Trouble with all noddy buggies is there expensive to buy and require a detachment of SAS soldiers to guard them from scroats 24/7/365.

so it’s either that or possibly a Jimny conversion or if you have deeper pockets maybe a Foers Ibex type machine.

we had a used noddy buggy once, purchased after a quad got nicked. It was an unreliable heap of junk so got sent back and bought a jimny instead. Suits what we need and can pretty much guarantee it won’t get nicked either which makes life a lot less hassle

what are Polaris like ? what model is a 855d equivalent? @warksfarmer ?

must be diesel though ( or electric if cheap enough ?)

I tried the electric version but didnt rate it at the time. However theres now a new model out so might be worth another look.
At the time the battery couldnt cope running an electric sprayer and covering an 80ac solar farm wasnt an option for it. The sprayer pump needs a certain voltage to get the pressure to fire chemical through jets to cover 9m working width. If the battery on my diesel isnt full charge it wont do it either.

4WD fiat panda with decent tyres.

Go where any gator goes. Air con and radio.

Happy enough to run up the road and be light on fuel. Can be diesel

Cheap
