JD6310 Gaining Engine Oil

i have a friend who thinks his 6310 is constantly gaining engine oil whilst reducing the level in the back end. Is there anywhere on the tractor where the oils could cross contaminate? For instance on the oil cooler.
I assumed this would not be possible but wondered whether anyone knows otherwise.
He is having to drain some oil off the engine every so often.

I thought that diesel would be more likely, however he says that when he does his daily checks: he never has to top the engine oil up. Despite no visible oil leaks from the back end he regularly has to top up the back end oil.
He did also mention that the engine is breathing heavily.

Take oil sample (hot) and send for analysis...it will tell you if you have water or diesel contamination..

If its hydraulic oil - the viscosity will be different and additive package results will be outside of spec.

I look at these for a living at the mine...as a matter a fact im doing sample results now!!!

Thanks for all the replies which I will pass on. I have just pointed out to him that he needs to check the back end oil on that tractor before he uses it for the day, since the oil takes a long while to settle to a level once the tractor has been started. He was not aware of that.
Provided the tractor is not consuming coolant, I would deduce that the problem can only be diesel contamination, which seems to concur with the view of the proffessionals.

If coolant the engine oil will change colour, or when you take the sump plug out, the coolant/water will come out first. It depends on the oil he's using.
Its more likely diesel ..........

got a 6410 that on one occasion engine oil had way to much oil on dip....the only thing that could of happened is fuel got in it.......so i have only ever filled fuel tank half full since and it never has happened again

I see there is a inlet manifold heater plug listed, may or may not be fitted?
It has a diesel supply and some fail by dripping into the inlet manifold when the engine has stopped, might be worth checking? Usually the engine runs smokey? Just disconnect/block the fuel supply to test ........

I went over to my neighbour's today and looked at the tractor. The "oil" didn't seem to have any lubricant quality to it when rubbed between the fingers. So we concluded there must be a lot of diesel in the sump. He has removed the fuel pump and will pick up a new seal from Colchester Fuel Injection in the morning and refit.
