So, i have a 2002 7810, 11580 hrs, with IVT transmission that is stuck in Park. There's a bunch of error codes, most of them related to transmission oil pressure being low. I want to know what the codes mean and if somebody has had similar problems or knows something that would help me fix it.
Here's the full story:
This is my secondary cultivation tractor that i don't use very often. A couple of weeks ago i sent the tractor to do it's first job for the year, some stubble cultivation with a heavy disk. first two days everything was ok. On the third day, the driver called me in the morning saying a light came on indicating trans oil filter clogged but then it went off. the filters weren't due for a change for another hundred hours or so. He also told me that sometimes when he reaches the headland, the engine doesn't throttle back as it should. I said we'll look into it when he gets back. After noon, he called saying there's a problem with the tractor, keeps going into park by itself. Told him to come back home which he did, but he couldn't drive past 5-6 km/hr or it would 'park' itself. Barely got in the yard and i went on and checked the error codes. The transmission light was flashing. I asked somebody on this forum what the codes meant and he said the trans pressure sensor is broken and that the transmission needed a calibration. Indeed, the said sensor was broken and after i calibrated the transmission as instructed, the tractor started moving but after a few laps around the farm it started flashing the transmission light and would park itself if trying to push it, and got to a point where it wouldn't move at all. i ordered the pressure sensor and after installing it, the pressure readout was much smaller than it should be: about 10-11 bar instead of 17-18 at 1000 rpm and it goes up to 18 when at full throttle. this was confirmed with an analog barometer connected to the System port on the transmission cover. the mechanic who helped me with the sensor installation also checked a valve that he said it was controlling the pressure but that seemed ok, all intact, no broken springs, no marks. The trans oil filter was replaced too, didn't help. He then said it was nothing else he could do. My only other option is to send it on a trailer to the main and only JD dealer in my country, but i was warned by others that they don't like to get their hands too dirty and just replace the whole unit. Obviously i don't want to go that way unless i am sure there is no other option.
These are the error codes stored in the APC: 100, 094, 119, 118, 142, 130, 056, 139. Can somebody give me a description for them? Or even better, for all the APC codes? Also, the APC addresses description would be nice..
Has anybody had this kind of problem?
Has anybody any idea on what it could be or what to check next so i can get closer to finding the problem?
I suspect 2 possible causes:
1. worn oil pump. From what i understand looking in the parts diagram, the pump is part of the front cover of the transmission. This front cover looks like it was replaced before because it;s not painted green like the rest of the transmission. The tractor had 7k hours when i got it in 2010 and i don't know it's history.
2. worn clutch pack, with debris blocking the mesh screen that is above the filter, so it's restricting the oil flow. This scenario came in my mind because of that blocked filter warning. I had the same problem with the JD6620 a couple of years ago. The filter light came up before being due for a change. Replaced it the same day but next day it lost it's clutch. When we opened it up, some of the disks had nothing left on them, just bare metal and the oil was black.
Wow, this is my longest post ever, hope somebody has the time to read it and is able to help me...
