Jersey Cow Urgent Request

Posted this on Livestock for sale and wantd but drew a blank so will try again here!

My 88 year old father has just lost his Jersey cow which grazed the paddock in front of his house with a couple of nurse calves. It gave hm a reason to get out of the house and harkens back to when he was milking.
Accordngly I am lookng for a replacement, I have in mind a good temerament youngish cow that hasn't made the grade in the dairy but would do a job rearing calves.
Reasonable proximety to North Somerset would be an advantage.

I have been in touch to learn they could have been sold 10 times over!
No money in milk then?!!
I am looking for a cow that hasnt made the grade through the parlour but would do a job as a nurse cow as an alternative to being hung up!

Surely there's a jersey herd relatively close to you. Hope you get sorted.

First photo is just after the calf was born, second photo was last week, its mate is a few weeks older than it and is a bbxayrshire

How do the luing calves turn out, out of a jersey. I have a couple of jerseys x Angus heifers, thinking about bulling then and wondering what bull to run them with.

We will see but anything with Jersey in it I have found make excellent suckers and will calve easy because of the wide hips. Used to work on a farm which kept about forty Charolais x Jersey suckers then crossed them back to the Charolais again.They bred fantastic calves and often be top price at the mart in the sucker sales. They had a few Murray Grey x Jersey cows as well and they bred god calves

Would transporting one animal be classed as a pet and so may be exempt under the rules?

I wouldn't bother with that rubbish...never been asked for that in the ten years I've had it!

If it's one animal you are exempt from the distance restrictions re livestock haulage @topground

Jersey X blues can still make a decent calf. These are photos from a couple of months back of some of this year's blue steers on nurse cows and a couple of last years heifers.

If anyone ever wants any blue X heifers to run as sucklers let me know (although currently TB restricted)
