Yeah we get a fohn effect over here on the east fairly frequently, but more often we get a wave set up which forms the lenticular clouds.Fohn winds,or is that nearer Inverness?

What part of Devon are you? on the Blackdowns we have just has a few flakes of snow otherwise a windy but not bad dayThe winds are already here. Chunks of ice coming off twigs and the electricity cable hurled into windows from the current freezing rain, as well. Metal gates covered in ice. Slippery underfoot.

Ah well no iced up trees hereFurther North (and a bit West). It would have been a decent sort of day with temperature above freezing, but Dartmoor and Exmoor affect the climate in mysterious ways!
Generally affects the west rather than the east side of the UKWe all get the Gulf Stream don't we?
Fohn winds, you learn something new every day.Only two areas in UK get the Fohn effect AFAIK, that is where you refer to in North East Scotland, and here on the North Wales coast, meaning some of the mildest winter temperatures ever recorded in the UK tend to be in these areas due to a warming effect peculiar to the geography of both locations.
I remember driving home from Cerrig to Clynnog fawr one night, traveling through Capel Curig going towards pen y gwyrid and the temp was -7, I remember going over the top of the pass and starting down the other side going towards Llanberis, and watching the outside temp guage on the car rising, about ½ a mile down the pass the temp had gone from -7c to +7c. In the 10 years I did that commute that was the only time I saw the foehn effect in action.Only two areas in UK get the Fohn effect AFAIK, that is where you refer to in North East Scotland, and here on the North Wales coast, meaning some of the mildest winter temperatures ever recorded in the UK tend to be in these areas due to a warming effect peculiar to the geography of both locations.

Today we got prefrontal lenticulars for a spell around midday.
Have seen it be very localised for example forecast or actual wind speeds upwind of say 20 mph have seen localised 50 mph stripping leaves off trees.
