John Deere 1055 combine concave

Afternoon guys
Getting the combine ready and I've found that the concave has decided to stick in position. The main shaft running through the center of the combine has seized and isnt lifting or lowering the concave any longer. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Access looks awful to get in to strip down and free off anything. No grease points for the shaft so no wonder its stuck after 35 years.

Honestly, if it was working last year set where it is I'd crack on. Put plenty of easing fluid wherever you can see pivot points and vibration of work might free it up.

If it was I wouldn't be looking!! Was leaving a few unthreshed heads last year only discovered once bales were filled out as the baler was working right behind the combine. Thought I better get organized and look at possible causes and adjusting the concave back to factory settings was my first thought and rightly so,was a fair bit more open than thought and stuck where it is😩

Have you slackened the front and back adjusters on the drop arms off? I unclipped mine altogether so the shaft was completely free of load and then got a piece of pipe on the adjuster lever in the cab, and slowly freed it off a bit at a time.

Failing that, (and im guessing) if it just needs nipping up to get it closer to the drum, in theory you could leave it siezed and use the adjuster nuts to close the concave the last last bit..

FFS you have left it a bit late to investigate.
you need to remove the elevator, best done with the header on .
undo the chain, hydraulic connections and any electricals.
pull the pins holding the elevator and reverse off.
then you have access to the drum and concave

FFS. Whilst around Bury St Edmonds may have finished combining there are plenty others still waiting to start ! Ive been on combine maintenance today, will take a week to dry out.
Fair comment, but if you are in an area where harvest interval is short, you need to be ready go at the drop of a hat. Not leave essential maintenance till now.

I reckon if you use penetrating fluid and tape the button down on the ratchet adjuster (so it can open without you doing anything) and feed it some wodges of straw in the front you might shake it open and free.....

Ended up doing that this afternoon as there was enough adjustment on the threads. Will see how that does for now and give it a squirt of wd every time I pass for the next week or so.

Thanks for your concern over my timekeeping...
As someone else says, big players down south may be finished but up in scotland here its not quite the case. Most of the barley I have to cut has yet to be sprayed off and the forecast for the coming weeks would suggest I will be quite familiar with the innards of my combine by the time it dries up.

If you put Scotland on your profile, we'd have known there was no rush and that you were on top of it:).
As above, it may well free up in work.
I suggest caution in overriding the ratchet on the lever, I did that once and the combine ingested a great lump causing the unrestrained lever to slam down on top of my flask and lunchbox and wreck them both, good job it wasnt the dog's favourite spot.
