John Deere 6400 starter problem

I have a jd 6400 with starting problems.
Fitted a new ignition switch and relay on the end of the starter motor.
The tractor starts if you short it across the terminals on the relay with a screwdriver.
There’s 12.8 v across the relay when trying to start it but there is no voltage on the small centre third wire on the relay.
Also tried running power from the positive terminal on the battery to the third small wire on the relay with no success….have by passed the neutral switch.

many advice welcomed thanks

NEVER bypass the neutral switch..... Danger of death!!!

Now Then..
Do you have 12v at wire 300 (black) on the neutral start switch?? Also, do you have continuity along wire 506 (blue) from the neutral start switch to the start solenoid.
Touching 12v onto the start relay terminal with the blue wire should fire the starter... is the start solenoid earth working correctly?? I always prefer a test light/bulb rather than a multimeter..
Don't get run over while doing all this!!..

When you say short across the terminals.. do you mean the two big ones which result in a massive spark before turning the starter ??

is the relay clicking when you turn the key ? You say there’s 12v across the relay but it doesn’t do anything ? So it would seem your relay unit is still at fault.

running a live wire to the small spade on the relay should operate the starter

assuming you have checked the earth supply to the relay ??
