John Deere 7700 assistor ram

I have one assistor ram leaking on JD 7700. The top pin came out easy enough, the bottom one is very tight. I think it will need a hydraulic puller or a bigger slide hammer. I have been told that JD recommend doing the seals in situ and leaving the bottom pin in, is that right? I cannot see how to get into the ram to remove the innards in that case, there is no visible ring or clip to undo/unscrew , just a big seal around the top. Do I just muller that seal to get it out and find a circlip arrangement underneath? Anyone done one before?

Hello, dosent the chrome rod just pull out and then no need for bottom pin out ? Might need a loader or handler to pull it out if the top seal has rust behind it and made it tight

Take the hydraulic fitting out. Ram in, you will see a snap ring on the rod. Flick the ring off the rod or into the deeper groove on the rod if it has one. Remove rod. Replace seals. Refit rod then flick snap ring into shallower groove. No need to remove ram.

I have had a look on you tube and there appears to be two different styles on different JD models, some appear to just pull out and some have the snap ring accessed through the pipe fitting. Tomorrow I will see which type it is .... hopefully. Thank you for the hints.

On my 7710 the inner chromed part just pulls out.

Thanks Nick, first hand experience, can't beat it! I'll try that in the morning. Before investigating this I would never have thought that a ram inner would just pull out, so you live and learn.

Well Nick, you win the prize. After a bit of faffing about removing other bits to get clearance the inner ram just pulled clean out exposing the seals located in the outer. Put it back in again until new seals turn up. Thanks for help.
