Any big purchase a good idea when we now know there isn’t any current level subsidy support past 2020 and then at a much reduced level in 2021. In 2022 at the moment there is no support as of yet. This will see lots of farms come to the market and a reduction in land price.

In the news yesterday

The EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) has shaped UK support for farming for decades, and leaving the EU and CAP gives the government the power to make significant changes.

The government has pledged to maintain subsidies at EU levels for the next parliament, but only to smooth the transition to a new system for determining budgets.

So that's SFP for 5 years at least then...

Now (and the last few years) has been the time to reinvest in new machinery with the subsidies going in the future. Get set up to take advantage of opportunities that will present themselves. A fleet of well worked 15 year old gear now may offer some savings but in 5-10 years time, when the sub goes it will be truly knackered!

Brother inlaw runs one, first one did major damage in backend under warrant, new one ok but will get rid as soon as extended warranty come to the end I think.

Will UK farmers exit Uk and farm in EU states where subsidies are still available. Why/how would one compete with Eu farmers that are heavily subsidized? Just wondering.

I bet a few are looking but realistically the EU are going to reduce their CAP budget anyway so levels will drop in the EU.

Also with the UK out of the EU how long can it realistically last? It’ll be gone within 5 years.

What happened to the big wad of cash not spent? (repair costs are never anything like depreciation) new machines in the future could well be cheaper, nothing else has gone up in price like Ag machinery.

I doubt it will change if Europe doesn’t.

Things are usually priced to what the Local market will stand, then makers try to stop the grey importing.
I don’t know. Most of our stuff is 6 years old max and we have nothing on finance anymore. Personally I’m pleased we are in this position going forward compared to having a lot of very tired machinery. I expect this machinery to allow us to take any new opportunities on and carry us through to when more autonomous stuff comes around. With our system now it’s quite low impact on machines so should last much longer than a heavy tillage/ploughing set up.
