we once had a jones baler when i were a yoof. it would tie maybe 20 bales ok then throw a loose one. drove us mad, couldn't get it fixed. we traded it in for a nh 68, an excellent baler. the dealer punted the jones on (we told him of problem ). he said they just replaced the twine guides and it was ok. still glad to see the back of it, a mk10 i think.
They both have the same knotters

A Jones Mk16 had the Bamford Knotters.

@Classichay, I don't think you can diagnose this problem by just turning it over by hand, you say the string is hanging on the billhook, is there someone pulling on the string, and tripping the baler, while another it turning the baler by hand?

Check the rollers on the bill hook and the knife arm if they have any flat on them that is were your problem is
As any flat on the roller will alter how much the bill hook will open and how far the knife are will travel

Hi I’ve managed to get the knotters tying and shedding the knots with a persuasion to the knife arms to wipe the knot from the billhook, and using a fishing scale to get the twine pull set around 5lb. But I’ve found one of the bearings on the end of the knife arm to be ceased solid :(, any idea where I’d get one of these without paying through the nose? I’ve also noticed the needle is just touching the twine disc there appears to be about 3mm of play in.

Regards Dave.

Who is that? I’ve been on woodfields site and find them abit on the heavy side with the pen. I’ve bought off them in the past but I’d prefer to avoid cost if possible :)
