I'm no expert - what's the difference now?

I just bought a 6m, my first experience with german deere's

Most people I know bought them as they are nice and simple in the cab. Separate switches for everything etc etc. The picture I saw looks like they’ve fitted a screen and buttons instead.

I did. It's primary use is on a tmr mixer. The price difference to an R-series is noticeable (which i never considered buying).
And they are probably worth the same after 8000 hours, as the simple ones usually are more sought after when they get older.

Maybe i didn't look close enough, but i though it looks like they removed the dash screen and replaced it with the small corner post screen they use on the american models. I think that is a much better place for information, as i always find the steering wheel in the way, no matter the brand. There is a screen element on the dash in mine as well.
But is does have a separate switch for everything, that looks like a 2£ replacement, which i like.

I think the new side panel looks like the arm-rest on the bigger ones, just placed on the fender, so probably like you said.
With the new arm-rest there isn't mush mechanical interaction left, but i understand it to be an option with the command quad transmission. With all the extras, it looks more like the more expensive r-series, bar the cab space and fancy transmissions.

They’ve taken all the good bits out of the M series and replaced with the bad bits of the 30 series IMHO

Oddly, I was thinking exactly the opposite. No tractor I've driven in recent years has underwhelmed me as much as the current 6120m. Coming from a 6230 Standard I thought it clumsy, high both to get in and out of and to go under sheds, not appreciably more powerful and possessed of quite the worst view to the loader I've ever driven.

Now from what I can gather the 6110 and 20m revert to a shorter wheelbase and they've managed to drastically slope the bonnet. Looks are debatable, but view to the loader headstock from videos put up today is loads better. There's even a proper set of steps back on the right.
Controls? Personally I like what I see. I've been saying for a while my ideal setup would be a halfway house between M and R and this looks to tick several boxes.
Obviously things can be very different in the flesh and a higher spec one might be so dear you may as well have an R. But I could see me buying one of these.

We brought a top spec M series 12 months ago, just about every box ticked and was still 5 figures cheaper than an R.

Problem is anyone can get in an old M series and find the four wheel drive switch or diff lock etc etc.
I just don’t see the point of putting a computer in the cab to do what a switch would do, on what is supposed to be a cheap simple tractor.
Unless they’re going to release a new ‘S’ series that was like the old Ms so we can choose?
