Just Started Farming

Most of us on here are crowd funded!

What would you use the money for?
Creating a seed to sale system. There is a very high demand, both local and international, for yellow scotch bonnet peppers grown in Jamaica. The concept is to develop a farm to grow the peppers from seed and create added value products, such as different variations of hot sauce. Controlling the process from start will ensure maximum quality assurance from start to finish.

What level of funding would you be looking for?
Sounds fairly robust, to be honest I am a sucker for hot sauce :hungry:

The inevitable question: "why is nobody else doing this?" has to be asked - but my limited understanding of peppers (I'm more into chillies) suggests you need great fruit, and a good eye for grading - plus processing and packaging facility?

You've got my interest, and to be fair very little on here manages to do that (y)

Many other Jamaicans have been leaving the corporate world to engage in the same venture. The demand is huge and unfulfilled. Execution on a small scale would require a minimum of approximately USD 15k. However if you are interested please note that I don't just want your money for nothing. This would be in exchange for share capital as it would operate as a legal business.

Tropix, with the greatest respect , if your sole intention of joining TFF was to seek funding you have wasted your time.
That said we are all interested in your type of farming, and I am sure we wish you success.

Thanks but that is not my intention. Just want to be a part of a community with persons of similar interest.

Crazy if you don't!

Rumours and polls suggest that NZ is on route to have a referendum about freeing it up, which would be great, the way our regulations are presently it is an obstruction to even growing industrial hemp  I think it would be a really positive move, leave the 19th century behind :)

Good idea with the sauce, add as much value as possible before it leaves your farm, that's a very smart thing to do
you guys really need to think seriously, before freeing up consumption, there are really serious issues with mental health problems due to its use and no sign, that those countries who have legalised it, have seen any decrease in crime rate.

Oh, that's for sure.
I think the main issue is the "mystique" or maybe the "rebellion" factor that making drugs/alcohol taboo encourages - there's use, and abuse, as with anything.

Sugar is probably the worst drug in the world in many respects, and more addictive that cannabis, which tends to have users and abusers more reliant on the effects than actually addicted to it (however "culture" can be a form of addiction). Such is life.

We don't see that many sugar addicts out of their heads stabbing people in the UK, is it a big problem in New Zealand? thankfully in my travels I missed such issues.

Hi @Kiwi PeteOh btw I'm also growing a few ganja plants... they are really good

I'm business minded. I'm not here to launder money so if you're skeptical keep scrolling please. The idea is to create a legal entity that is in the agricultural sector. Partnership deed is a must. There are endless opportunities here that can be converted to cash.

I can't help thinking this a is an extremely poorly thought-out scam. But, just for sake of it... those in the UK should be aware that this fellow may not be breaking the law, yet. In Jamaica it is legal to grow a small number of plants and possession of up to a couple of ounces of it, while still an offence, does not lead to prosecution. It still all sounds dodgy though...

Apparently the Jamaican government is actively promoting it's production on small scale farms. It is also looking to form producer cooperatives to supply larger processors for it's medical use.

Hello everyone, I'm from the tropical island of Jamaica. It has been 4 months now since I have been farming. So far I've grown iceberg lettuce, bush beans and raddish. I'm now growing scotch bonnet peppers from seedlings I bought at 8 weeks old. I must say I am thrilled by some charleston grey watermelon that I have tried. Usually during this cold season watermelon doesn't grow at all in Jamaica. However I have some vines that are now bearing and the vines look absolutely phenomenal! Sssshhhh.... I didn't even water them at all since I planted them in November.
Good luck

Looking at the first line of your post, it does sound like the start of a joke or wind-up but, clearly, it isn't and hats off to the Jamaican Government for taking a pragmatic view of the matter. I'm all for the decriminalisation of hemp, the status-quo here in the UK is irrational to the point of absurdity, and I can't see any reason for not pursuing its medical use. Nonetheless, it does amuse me that it's happening in Jamaica... :)
