Like for like rates would be a difference of £7.00/ha but maybe more haulage. Don't know his location.

P-Grow is 23% P not sure of Nv but pH of 12.0
Think Kalfos is 22% P and 22% Nv?

As above I missed the rates post - still the more expensive option though, especially if you don’t need a contractor as in house spreading is a lot cheaper than £11.50/ha

Always a topic of debate for people who run spreaders. A man and some hours labour, some diesel, a tractor, a loader. How much was the spreader then? Yes I know it spreads other things as well but they're not cheap to buy. You've got to factor all this in to make a fair comparison.

Same debate for most contractor operations but my 15yr old spreader pulled behind an already depreciated tractor by a operator on a salary is costing me little more than fuel and a bit of extra R&M - peanuts basically

If i do a bit of contracting with it on in a machine like that as “extra” work it’s a very profitable job even at rates lower than £11.50/ha

If I was a contractor and bought a machine specifically to work for others it would be a different matter though re costing and I suspect much lower margin contracting.

Of all the contracting operations we do though spreading and spraying have always been by far the highest margin jobs though

WHAT!!!!!!!??

Making a high margin out of your farmer customers!!!!??! How dare you? How do you sleep at night knowing you could have done it cheaper?

I’m sure they could have got it done cheaper somewhere, couldn’t they ??!!

Farmers should never have to pay more than the bare minimum by your own standards Clive. I can’t believe you don’t help them out by doing the job at cost price.

Can’t leave it can you Pete ! Just accept you where way to expensive so I bought elsewhere

My contracting prices are competitive and I would never expect a customer to pay me more than they could get equivalent job done by someone else

I can certainly offer spreading a LOT cheaper than you charged me not that I want to do more work however, we have plenty on as it is

And if I was asked to supply product I certainly wouldn’t price it more expensively than it could be bought elsewhere and then be upset when someone told me I went competitive

If I make a good margin it’s because my fixed costs are low and we are efficient, not because i charge more, there is a difference

Seems to work, business is healthy and I don’t loose customers, you carry on doing what works for you

I paid £46 per ton delivered.

Maybe they are not wetting all of it, mine was like dry flour?

Hi Andrew

as Clive has said, I am keen to hear any feedback directly from clients as to performance, handling and our distributor services this year. Please do let me know if you have any issues you would like to discuss with me directly!
