Kverneland headstock

Looking at a s/h kv plough with the really tall top link bolted onto the headstock and the big hole above the crossshaft where the turnover shaft sits, might be called a 240 or 250 not sure.
Seem to recall a discussion about them somewhere perhaps no spare parts but can't find it now.
Anyway are they problematic and something to avoid and walk on or are they ok?

I wouldn't be worried about the headstock but the rest of it could be pretty well worn out.

I'd be looking for something another newer with a 200 headstock on it
Any idea how big is the job of replacing the main shaft that runs through the headstock, iv just had to replace the bearings on our turn over ram and see it had play in it. Maybe best to refresh the plough? Had a new beam with previous owners so done done work🫣

Yep similar to that last picture, old but is it trouble?
Ran plenty of them back in the day.
5f vari-widths with anything up to 200hp.

We used to replace the bolts that fastened the headstock to the plough every year, as they had a habit of shearing off. If that happened, you'd usually bend the turnover ram and get a bit of collateral damage 🤦

Damn good ploughs, but as @KB6930 says, they'll have done a fair bit of work by now.
Look for wear in the vari-width pins and bushes and (if it has it) in the auto reset balls and sockets.

Not bad to do slide it out the plough it's all simple nuts and bolts a couple of hours will do it

Is it common to see welding around where the auto reset balls plate meets the main beam? Ours has been welded up by previous owner on ever one, then carefully painted, I dint notice when I brought it🫣 ploughed 200+acres no problem

I don't think we ever welded any of them up. We did weld various other bits of beam up over the years.
It never affected the way any of them ploughed though. Those auto reset vari-widths always made a good job though.

This 4f had an extra furrow bolted on when we went up to a TW30 and after the 30 went it was used behind a 205hp JD4955. Most of the time it had a double row Dowdeswell furrow press hung on the side of it. On lighter land we pulled a 3m solid Flexicoil packer behind the press and drilled straight on top of it.

There's no wonder we had to do the odd bit of welding here and there, but they were very good ploughs, very heavy, but probably the best ploughs available in their day.
