anyone know where to get the metal tags or similar to stamp wording on and then tie to a hydraulic hose? any type of pen seems to wash off as soon as hydraulic oil touches it.

any other permanent ideas?

We use:
1 coloured cable tie on pressure pipe
2 coloured cable ties on return pipe.

Green in number 1
Blue in number 2
Brown / black in number 3
Blue in number 4
Yellow in number 5

(This is what Fastracs use). The newer JD we have is the same colour coding (on first 3 spools anyway)

The MF as usual has completely different colour coding but I just put coloured ties on it too as a reminder.

Coloured cable ties do the job here. Complicated machines/ones with lots of pipes have a laminated page of what each colour does either in workshop or on machine somewhere.

You could get some small aluminium plates laser cut cheaply, then stamp them and cable tie them on if you wanted something more permanent and slightly more professional?

Can you get blank cattle ear tags and write on them with a permanent marker ,then hang them on the pipe with a zip tie

Yes, I use similar to these, stamp the ferrule with whatever code you want

Coloured cable ties as above, red is always left, one on pressure side two on return. I always make number one spool red, then when swapping tractors it doesn't matter what colour the spool is, red is always left or number one spool.

I use coloured cable ties from screwfix. Red is always pressure and blue is return.

I once noticed on a set of vaderstad rollers that they had a coloured ring on each pipe with either a + or -

Why not just number them - that's what I have done.

You could even go for odd numbers for pressure and even numbers return

Colours did my head in - I know that 1 and 2 go together - ditto 3 and 4 etc = simple to remember without a colour coded key

I’m not sure really. If they were a couple of quid each then on a new machine they’d be fine.
However, retrofitting them to all of our existing kit they’d have to be pence!

We’re do you buy them? Great for my valtra because the spools are them colours with a + and - on the covers
