I've been using this stuff for the last 2 years. It seems to work as well as anything else I've used, mixes easily and to a thick, creamy consistency that's very similar to the real stuff.
Not sure if that's a good measure of efficacy, but a more watery product is surely lower in solids (the only part of milk that has nutritional value).

However, none of the artificial colostrum are anywhere near as good as ewe colostrum, or likely to confer any antibodies to diseases present on your farm.

*cough* what do you expect that to do?

fudge all is the answer. Might as well just swiftly introduce them to a gatepost now and be done with it.
Was waiting for you stick your two bob in:finger::finger:Used it for the last two years and had no problems till they get mothered on sumut, so :finger::finger:

Is it the person who gave you the egg custard recipe? I imagine it tastes a bit fishy.

You know what colostrum does? It provides immunoglobulins (antibodies) for the lamb as they cannot cross the placenta so are born without any. Where do you think the antibodies are in your egg and your milk?

I'm sure it looks a bit yellow and thick and colostrum 'like'. I'm sure it gives the lamb some energy, protein and a laxative effect. It's still doing NOTHING. Diddly squat for the lamb's immunity. That's not ok. Suggesting others do it on the internet is not ok. It's irresponsible.

Written in this book I'd nothing else is available it will not produce antibodies but we kept our lambs in extra clean pens with warmth also sceptical wether any thing would stay alive and guess what they did

IMHO, owt is far better than nowt - and a feck site better than being smacked against a gatepost. Have you had a bad day, Bovine?

It comes out as one of the best ones in the trial posted above too. The only ones with higher iG amounts (per feed) cost a lot more and are double the rec feed quantity. If you fed a little more of the Downland, you'd be giving more iG's at a lower cost than those.(y)

I would guess it's only rebranded (& cheaper) Farmesense Ovicol, but I may be wrong.

@bovine , I was thinking of you at a sheep meeting with a vet a couple of weeks ago. We were discussing powdered lamb colostrum and someone said they used formula baby milk powder from Tesco, as it was far cheaper.:D
