Lamb with a broken leg

Hi all,
Just lambed a bought in lleyn ewe with twins and it was a very tight difficult lambing, unfortunately the first was dead and the second one is living but I had to push its legs back and pull the head through first to get him out. When I then pulled the legs through one of them must have caught her cervix/pelvis and cracked. What’s the bat way of bracing it? Has he got any chance of a decent life with a bit of tlc? Time doesn’t bother me as I’m feeling guilty and I’m fairly patient with livestock (reared 52 per lambs last spring).
Thanks

As long as it’s floppy you can brace it ... i braced a leg last year with a few pieces of plastic and and vet wrap then re set it again a week later and it was like new again after 2 weeks ...

This year have one that’s locked I can’t bend it’s leg at all but it’s as happy as Larry and sucking like a trooper and jumps around... part me wishes I put to sleep as it might be a problem later in life but I couldn’t end a lamb that is so full of life...

Cover the middle of the leg with about 5 inches ? of pipe insulating foam. You might need to cut two lengths and reduce the diameter of one or each length, so that they fit snugly around the knee, just as if you were insulating a pipe.

Then bind as tight as seems comfortable with something like insulating tape to within half an inch of each end. It is by far the best type of splint - it won't cause any chaffing.

At the knee may be interesting , but likely above / below . At that age they can mend fast , so worth a punt . It'll still suck off mum if hopping about , but tlc require for both , away from rest for a while .

Above knee - tricky, and less likely to achieve a good mend the closer to the elbow the break is. Keeping the elbow from moving is difficult, and there's a risk of sores from a splint. Also a risk of a shortened leg if the bone knits.

Below knee (canon bone) good chance of a mend if you're precise.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
