Can a Texel X ewe get tupped in mid-March? The answer must be yes as some cull ewes were running with the tups and got forgotten about after scanning. Triplets appeared yesterday and another has a fair bag.

I've had Lleyn gimmers (2 of them - ran them on after not lambing, to give another chance) lamb around now before... went to the tup in October whilst still rearing. Lambed again in March

Had a blue texel cross lamb leave a single last year 29th July. Got hell from the Mrs for running the tups and hoggs together over springtime. Weaned it early November and she took the tup straight away - twins born 7th April.

had at least one lambing every month so far this year.....sweating a bit hoping to keep it going but i've a wilt bagged up...huge....with no lamb running with her

Years ago we had a neighbour who was to say the least 'lax' about tup and yow management, at the time my grandfather was trying the '3 crops of lambs in 2 years ' thing with polled dorsets, our neghbour leaned over the gate and said , 'yer wasting yer time, my yowes are getting me a new dropped lamb every month of the year for the last three years. Simple!

But more to the point: if you know nothing about sex, how did your wife learn?

I don't know either as I kept the best stuff for the widow at number 32.

We've a tex x ewe bagging up atm.
We acquired 2 pet ewes at the end of February off a friend of a friend of the MIL. Both were 5yr old, never reared lambs, fat as mud. Turned them out with the ewes, and the tup was still running with them. Both were tupped in March. Unfortunately one got overthrown last month and we lost it.
Not looking forward to lambing it tbh, as its still fat as butter.

tupping is controlled by day length , so really many ewes not in lamb could go anywhen from august to march , the difficulty is getting lambs born naturally in nov- jan , very breed specific , my chars will lamb quite happily in dec , yet zwarts rarely lamb before feb without help .

Oh how I’ve laughed reading this thread. Wasn’t quite so funny when I went to check today.

Born this morning. Will need to review the policy of putting tups back with ewes post scanning.

Had a Ch ewe that lambed yesterday. Lost her lamb but decided to keep her as she was under withdrawal at the time. Took a couple of them to some rough grazing and noticed a small welsh 25/30kg lamb in there a few weeks later. Must have been big enough to do the job anyway!

I had a teacher in school who was a farmer he lambed in end of June start of July inline with school holidays, no idea how well it worked. Perhaps not a bad idea plenty of grass, long days and nice weather maybe we've been doing it wrong all this time
