went out early and everyone was OK, got a couple back with mum that had got separated.
cold, windy and back to rain again now over an inch since yesterday, will have another look later, they are in a field with a good slope and some cover so 🤞

Did you use Shearwell Mac’s?
Given up on them, almost stopped using macs last year because they wouldn’t stay on. Got these now, really pleased , staying on a week, some longer for small lambs

Got them from Eden Farm Supplies

I think that's the one big drawback with scanning, it means you can quantify losses. Good on an individual basis, but can lead to broad assumptions on a flock basis.
I’ve a neighbour who refuses to scan, he scanned once and when he totalled up his losses at the end of the season it drove him into a depression and he swore he would never scan again, and he hasn’t.

Only time I know how many lambs I’ve had is when I add them up on the kill sheets….because that’s the only time you are guaranteed to know what you’ve got…

Not the point really. Obv going to have some lose the catch or resorb the fetus.
First 2 years scanning we put off a fair few empty, plenty of them raddled, that would have been kept on, fed and wondering if in lamb. Many that shouldn't have been here anyway 🙄🤬 that is another story.
Secondly we aren't feeding twins and singles the same ration so again a cost saving. And less chance of prolapse or hung lambs.
And if scanned single, once it's out you can toodle on knowing there's not another one twisted up inside - usually!

I wasn’t defending him, and I agree with your post . That was his take on it not mine. We scan here and I would hate to go into a lambing without a scan.

I havent enough seperate fields to seperate up to be beneficial regards feed, so scanning cost goes to feed instead, makes sence to me
