Hi guys
I'm new to sheep farming, never been to agriculture collage etc but brought 14 acres of farm land with two big barns and frankly thought f@£k it!! I'm reading books, I'm looking at you tube, I've even gone as far as to stop when I see a farmer hahaha

I have 9 lambs right now that are on the bucket, there aged from 2 weeks up to 5...…. there all doing ok this far...… fingers crossed any way! 5 week olds are now eating and drinking water and I've moved them away from young still on the milk.

my question is when should I worm them? iv read lots of info and its all a little contradicting, and also when do they have there second hep b vac?

the farmer also had things like antibiotics in his room of things, how do you go about getting things like that?

also any breeds you would suggest for such a novice like my self?

Hi there, Another bitten by the sheep bug ?

Well done for rearing those lambs!? 5 weeks is at the young end for weaning, so I'm sure you're keeping an eye on the transition.

Best register with a farm Vet asap for advice about worming (they shouldn't need anthelmintic just yet), vaccines (second dose advice should be in the HepP+ pack with their first dose, in your meds book?), and certainly advice and guidance about use of antibiotics which are prescription only, in any case.

You'll need to have your flock registered with The Powers That Be, and an official flock number to identify your sheep legally, even if they have eartags from their breeder(s). The Vet should help point you in the best direction for the rules in Wales.

You've left it late to be getting excited about sheep.
Most of us by 40 years old have had enough of them.
Heptavac P if your keeping ewe lambs to start your own flock .
I do mine at about 5 -6 weeks old and again in another 5-6weeks.

Thank you for the reply, im all registered and have my own tags etc etc lambs came having had there first jab and i was told i need to do the second one, will have a chat with the vet like you said ? i only asked about the antibiotics as he had some in the store and gave it to a lamb that looked unwell before it left, so wasnt sure if this was common practice to just have ?‍
My dad told me that sheep are born wanting to die ?? but i still cant help but love them!!
(He is a cow man him self)

You probably know this already but watch for fly strike ,probably June onwards if you're in a fairly high altitude area or earlier on river valley land .

as hard as it is , dont get sentimental , cull any problem (especially bad feet) , you will love whats left .

There's got to be a wonky gene in some of us that predisposes towards keeping sheep

Some even have a combination for both sheep and cattle

google your local large animal vets ... if you tell us your location I’m sure somebody will tell you who that is... give them a call, you’ll register an account with them and then they will want too come out and see your lambs anyways as it’s a legal condition they can’t sell you drugs if they haven’t seen your livestock in 12 months... they will then talk you through worming and antibiotics practices ... for a few lambs it’s probably not worth keeping any drugs maybe a bottle of alamycin La
