Land required for Bees

Hi all
I‘m new to this forum, I‘m a beekeeper Located in Bangor on Dee ( Wrexham ) I‘m currently looking for landowners or Farmers who would like some bees on their land, I will travel upto an hour covering Shropshire, Cheshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Powys (North) & Wrexham. I currently have a number of Apiaries across these counties. Ideally pay in honey for the use of the land and may consider an alternative commercial arrangement after a trial period. The ideal site would be accessible for a 4x4 and secure Thank you

Thanks the minimum area would be 10ft x 10ft suitable for 3 hives 10ft x 20ft suitable for 6 hives ideally fenced off I’m happy pay for a fence. The hives can go into woodland or scrubland…Thanks

How much space would you need and would it have to have livestock fenced off?

As above, a bit more detail of what you need would help, how big an area, close to a farmstead or out on it’s own, etc

Hi @Wrexham Bee Man

Im a big fan of all native pollinators and keen to improve pollen rich areas of my farm in order to increase diversity. Do you encourage your land owners to improve their hedgerows and encourage wildflower planting in wide verges in the fields? The reason I ask is that 6 hives could be as many as 100,000 non native honeybees, that will strip pollen on an industrial scale leaving very little for the native pollinators like solitary bees, hover flies, butterflies and moths that all move up the food chain. With all things in nature if you’re taking something out you need to put more in to make up the loss. Happy to advise you on the best way to engage with your land owners. There are also plenty of organisations that would advise and assist with these sort of environmental improvements.

Good luck to you and mmmm.. honey!

Thank you for your feedback the 3 & 6 hives quote was based on an area example for hive to size ratio basis. In my opinion siting 6 hives alongside 100 acres of Oil seed rape or similar crop would have little to no impact on the countryside. We try and manage our hives with a minimum and maximum number to an area and are fully aware the benefits to farmers and we take all wildlife and countryside into consideration seriously, we work hard with landowners and farmers in an ever changing world we live in Thanks Andy
