Hi

I have been offered a 2005 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5
It has done 150K and the owner is asking £14K I have checked back and there have been some minor advisories in the past but nothing major and no mention of chassis corrosion..
Is 14K a reasonable price?

Take your pick

I’ve a trooper couple years older than that with half the mileage. It’ll do exactly the same as a 90 but with significantly more comfort. Cost £1800. No brainier for me
We use 110 hcpu....and there's not much else that would do what we ask of it.

Collects 2x 500kg dumpys of cake all winter, often combined with delivering a handler bucket load of logs (tipped straight in from bucket).
The boy takes his shearing pen/gear off in it in summer.
It tows 3.5t loads of timber and livestock all the time (avoiding vosa weighbridges just in case...).
It feeds cattle straight out of butt, inc using whole big squares, or 4' rounds.
With the Ifor canopy on it moves up to 10 ewes.
Seats 3 'friends'

It'll be 20 y/o next March, now has galv chassis, and unless someone comes up with summat new to match it, I suspect i won't ever buy another pickup.
Cost -if memory serves- was £17k new.
That was the no-brainer.

Stupid thing is, if bought a new galv chassis, 2.5k?, spent two weekends on moving everything over, it may well then have been a 15 to 20k motor...
They had a price to change chassis. £8000+ by the time all brakes, brake lines, clutch, and suspension was replaced . They decided to cash it in instead.

Dad always had blue Land Rovers. He had a panic when he heard they were going to stop making them and ordered one. Dealer phones up one day, Mrs Bg answers the phone and it’s the dealer saying LR have run out of blue paint it’s either grey or red. So we have a grey one, Red would have been the right answer but dad would have hated it.

He’s gone now but the land rover is still here and even though it is impractical for everything other than my shooting dog waggon we are keeping it for dad.

She looks tidy, if you can afford it and want it (I expect you can and do as you're in talks about it) - get her bought.

Fair enough some people dislike them, but plenty run them down based on their hatred - the market dictates their value... and there is not much around with the real value of a Defender

We've had a few over the years, and absolutely love the current one (2.4 puma 110 single cab pickup). Nothing comes close as a farm truck, IMO.
