Not sure if this is off topic really but I’m sure of interest to many .

fundamentally a social experiment to take workers from industrial areas during the depression and relocate them to small holdings across the country. Providing the holding, training and the market for produce.

There is a fantastic book based on our local LSA holding. ‘Go home you miners’.

There was one near me, at Newent, which was very successful until the late 80s when imports torpedoEd its viability.
I knew one tenant, he wasn’t ex forces but a gamekeeper who bought his way in.

Didn't there used to be a lot of small Fen farms/market gardens established between the Wars, known as Troopers Pieces?

The LSA was on its knees before Thatcher, I went to school in the 70s with kids whose parents walked away from the LSA as they couldn't make it pay and thought they could do better on their own. They all soon discovered that didn't work either. Most ended up taking jobs elsewhere to make ends meet.
