Re. housing, it will be interesting to see how long it takes an incoming Labour govt to get rid of S21 no-fault evictions. I expected the conservatives to get rid at the end of their tenure to salt the earth for the next govt.

First week, according to the article.

So in effect a tenant could stay in a house, blocking a redevelopment of an area of land. Would that trigger compulsary purchase?

Who decides the fair price & how about the other costs of construction?
A nasty little concept...
'fair price', rather than an inflated price due to pending pp, suggests the mere ag value.
And that's fine, as long as the CPO is for land remaining in ag.....which it clearly isn't.

the headline talk is about developers/speculators blocking progress by land banking, pushing up the value of housing stock.
But does anyone believe that where it stops?

This would constitute a hideous abuse of democracy.

Fine. Less land available then. Farmland has a price. Development land has another price.

Something needs to be done as house prices have been artificially inflated.
I'd imagine they'd target areas designated for new towns in what at the moment
is classed proper greenbelt .
Agree housing has become too expensive in the UK. Whatever is done will be unpalatable to property owners. The alternative is for levels of debt to be increased further on the back of house prices inflation. Sooner or later individuals will be priced out of the market as repay times increase beyond a working life time.

Totally agree 12K is too cheap A million pounds an acre too dear.

Let the market sort it out, give planning permission on more land, than builders can be found to build the houses. That will lower the price.

That's the problem though capitalism writes the rules so "the land market" will never sort it out.

There’s an ‘affordable’ housing scheme down the road from us, self build plots start at 92k. It’s an astronomical price but the developers think it’s great because it’s cheaper than some other plots near by….

Under the current planning regime housing land has become too expensive. "Too expensive" is a political judgement though, some people are quite happy to see rents going up, level of mortgage debt going up as well as the proportion of foreign ownership of UK property.

One reason the UK is seen as a pretty good investment, is because of the rule of law and ownership. We don't confiscate assets because we want to. This is why rich Russians put their money in London. The Labour party wanting to dismantle this rule of ownership to suit the states whims I believe will have slow but corrosive long term effects on the UK.

You don't think the reason house prices are inflated is because we let in 650 000 people every year to add to our population, but build about 200 000 houses. The problem as I see it is our planning system. And too much immigration.
