We’ve done a 1st cut silage and will be doing a 2nd cut on some 2 yr ley land. I’ve been asked if I’d consider letting somebody make either a very late hay or haylage in August time. After we’ve done the 2nd cut silage theyd put some Nitrogen on then it would be theres until they’ve made the hay or haylage. What should I charge? It’s only a 40ac field. I’ve got it earmarked for sheep grazing later on as well.

£20/acre? £60 for first cut (7-8t/acre), £40 for second cut (5-6t/acre) and £20 for third cut (3-4t/acre? Just an idea which makes sense in my head!

It will suffer all winter if its cut to late ,but needs to be no less than £30/acre with their firtilizer

If it were me I would put a clause in saying must be cut before september 1st and a fine of £1/acre/day if it is cut afterwards. Nothing worse than grass suffering over winter

Petition: Temporary Ban on agricultural use of sewage cake
In order to protect our land, we’re seeking a temporary ban of the agricultural use of sewage cake until better testing and treatment of waste can be proven. We call on all farmers after this harvest to refuse to accept any more until things change.
Some research suggests that the contamination of land is far more serious than just heavy metal build ups. There is an increasing amount of micro plastics and forever chemicals appearing in sewage cake. We think testing for these when it leaves the processing plants isn’t adequate, and that processing needs to adapt to be able to remove these contaminants.
