Leaf blowers

I've used 4mix pole pruner and a two stroke chainsaw. Both Stihl and the 4 mix doesn't scream as much and appears to have a lower revving engine. Other than that haven't noticed any difference. Both are 10 years old now. Haven't used Stihl leaf blowers.

I've got a sthil 2stroke, not tried the 4mix thingamyjig, TBH didn't know they did one! But occasionally use a customers 4 stroke Honda , I'd pick the still every time, I like the idea of the Honda, but for a blower you need revs IMO , and the 4 stroke lacks in this department. I genuinely wouldn't be without a leaf blower now, I never knew I needed one so much until I got one:D

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll prob go for the two stroke, as well proven.According to tinternet,4 stroke ones were introduced to reduce emissions to keep the yanks happy!

got a stihl leaf blower ,had it for 3 years .Brilliant for a wide range of jobs and the hoover attachment aint bad either. You can " sweep" out a shed in no time at all and not even have to move any gear, clean off machines etc. blow off cobwebs in the parlour ,- you can even blow leaves with it !

If you're interested in a homeowner version, Troybilt makes a 4 cycle trimmer/blower/edger/hedge trimmer.

No idea if its any good or even quiet---- weighs 13 lbs I think.

Has anyone any thoughts on the battery versions? Saw a Council worker using a battery-powered Makita last week - looked quite handy but I don’t know how performance would compare to a commercial or domestic grade petrol-powered version. I’d have use for one in a year or so.

Ryobi 18 blower is suprisingly good

4ah battery lasts about 15minutes

More for sweeping the patio etc than farm stuff. But we have used it for clearing up drying floor after rape were petrol is sometimes too powerful and noisy

Some blowers now use two batteries to get 36v

what are you intending on using it for ?

I have a gravel drive and yard bounded all round by lawn or hedge. Think a blower would be good for clearing up grass and hedge trimmings after mowing, striking the edges or trimming the hedge. A rake only does so much no matter how long you spend at it. I already have a pair of makita batteries and some tools. Would also seriously consider their chainsaw if and when my old Husky expires.

Cordless lithium-ion batteried tools have come on in leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, capacity and power is now often better than petrol.

I bought a little Stiga electric push mower a few months ago to get at some awkward spots around the lawn. It is an amazing little thing - 80 volt battery!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
