I don't know yet, Kildare. I'm not living in a farm and i own 2 others tractors (Fendt 305, Renault Junior). I 'll sell one of the three fore sure but really don't know the one. My garage is not very wide.
I use tractors in winter time to lumberjack. Marshall 100, the steering make me thing about the MF 265 one. Your words help me !

Found an old manual but it's for the wrong model unfortunately. The only other thing I could find specific to the 255 was a book of service cards for export tractors. Thought it might be of interest.

There's a tidyish 245 on Facebook marketplace fairly near me. Just short of 2K though. Advert says it has a 2cyl Leyland but I thought they had the Perkins in?

But...the linkage and the loader work when "hyd" not engaged, so the pump works I guess
The selector lever may be a bit out of position if you're getting hydraulic pressure in the fully forward position.
I think it's a matter of loosening the bolt on the lever, setting it in the position notch that matches what the pump is doing, then the fully rearwards position should engage the pto after re-tightening.

Beautiful tractor your 270, thank's for the documents. Could you confirm me the type of oïl in gearbox ? engine oïl, isn't ?
I'll reply concerning the pto/hyd lever in few days when i'll have drive back the tractor home...on next friday, the 13th...

This is the lubrication chart from the 344 handbook but should be the same for your tractor I think.

Thank you J-ham
I drive my "new" tractor home this morning. 20 milles at 1800 rpm in the country. I couldn't hear the birds...my ears are broken. The straights gears are really noisy.
But all in all it was fine. No smoke, no overheat, no strange smell. Except some hydraulic noises some time to time. Probably my linkage in a bad position (I was carrying a hay cutting machine). Good week end everybody and thank you for your interest in that discussion.

Were the windows vibrating? They used to be bad for that

No, the windows are not vibrating... because a piece of wood is tightened to lock them.
I am lucky, the ex-owner found in the attic the owner manual and the repair manual, both in french.

I have to say that most of the complaints about the brakes are based on experiences( some buttock clenching ones I expect!) On restoration, my 253 was fitted with all new brakes, they were so entertaining as to prevent any attempt to use top gear! The solution was found in the fitting of marshall wet brakes from a 502.
