The supermarkets will sell whatever makes them £££, so when the "plant based" stuff stays on the shelves they'll quietly reverse their policy. As to the rest, Der Spiegel can't be trusted as a reliable source after getting caught out making stories up a couple of years ago and the big boss of Siemens is desperately trying to divert attention from the companies massive carbon emissions.

The snobs confession
I walked into Lidl one night I was on foot and it was handy
Got my hand basket half full of stuff I did not recognise until I approach the fresh chicken, I had my heart set on a Sourdough Chicken Sallad Sandwich, the chicken looked like something a dog at eaten and coughed up , that was enough to cause an about turn dump my basket and walk another mile to a Waitrose Store
I've never thought myself a snob but if the cap fits I suppose I must wear it

Veg based alternatives may be carbon neutral, but in reality they probably aren't.

Even the likes of Quorn creates a lot of CO2 as a byproduct. Why Monde Nissin foods fail to mention this is obvious, but it's a fact that fungi respire and produce CO2 as it reproduces. The same Fusarium Venenatum fungus which is produced in giant heated stainless steel vats by bubbling gas through a nutrient rich soup, before heat-treatment to remove excess levels of ribonucleic acid. Originally formulated by ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) the process was designed to produce high protein livestock feed, but now Monde Nissin have built a multi million pound business by convincing consumers that by eating a highly processed fungus mixed with Palm Oil that they are 'saving the planet'.

And what Lidl fail to mention is that 'alternative meats' and the ultra processed foods in which they are found just happen to usually be high profit margin (but nutritionally very poor), so are consumers "Saving the planet one meal at a time" or are they being played like a deck of cards by the marketing managers are Lidl?

You are what you eat. Most sensible folks buy the best quality they can afford, even if that means giving up drinking, smoking, and trips to Benidorm.
The dwindling population of sensible folks will always want to eat meat rather than factory processed gloop.

And to much can be bad for your kidneys and it uses a lot of energy to break it down

Maybe their business model is different over here (NI) but you'll generally get better quality in a Lidl than the big supermarkets.

Links to local suppliers at a personal level is also a big thing with them here.

They've certainly shaken off the council estate customer image a long time ago.
