Lights for beef shed

I need to upgrade my yard / barn lighting.

What are the best lights for beef cattle sheds? LED, Sodium or fluorescent ?

Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

Depend on when you want to use them really. We use a 70 w metal halide for a 100ft 40ft barn at the narrow end up high. Tried a sodium but was too yellow and bad colour rendition esp for the darker sussex cattle. They're quite good but watch voltage drop as they don't like it and keep switching off and refiring. Also get quite a shadow at the far end but I feel it's a bit much having one at each end for beef cows and the shadow is Not nearly as bad as the old halogen tubes.

fitted some 80 w led floods in cattle shed instant light no waiting. flurecents ok but you will need to go enclosed type ip 66 rated for damp environment etc. led not cheap but a 80 w covers a big area. Make sure 3 yrs plus guarantee from a reputable supplier

I went with flourescents there's 12 in a 100' x 60' shed, i don't think they can be beaten.

Would agree they are the best type of illumination by far.

Sodium are shite, I would go for LEDs if you have floodlights.
Recently put up some strip lights with led tubes in for my lambing shed, they are excellent, like daytime in there now.

Have those in a shed, nice light of them, but they are heavy fir the fittings.

I put up a led flood light and it's hopeless :-( next plan is back to a 500 w floodlight again

What size. 10 are pointless. 20 ok for small back garden side of house. 50 small yard 80 for end of grain store etc. but the light just stops at a certain distance if that makes sense

Biggest I could get it's about 10 inches square. I was very disappointed as I had been assured that it would equal the old 500w one

@COWCARE SYSTEMS got a cattle shed used for our suckler cows its 75foot wide, 110 foot long split up as 30ft lying area then a 15ft scrape passage 20ft central feed passage then 15ft scrape then 30ft lying area. what would you suggest to light this up?

yes ridge runs down the 110ft lenght. portal frame,
eaves is about 4.5m
ridge would be 7m
decent level, but not need to work in, just for say feeding early morning/bedding down have better lights in a diff shed for calving.

If its low level lighting I would fit 6No. 54watt IP64 corn lamps, this will give you a very even 40 lux light level and cost you £234
or
6No. 36watt costing £174 will give you around 28 lux
